Ask Alejandro Betancourt López what carries a venture, and he points past the concept. Execution matters more than the idea, in his view, and the right team is the variable he treats as non-negotiable.
The emphasis reorders the usual startup story. A brilliant plan with the wrong people, by his reasoning, loses to a sound plan with the right ones.
Staying in the building
He doesn’t invest and walk away. Betancourt López keeps involvement in his companies long after the initial deal closes, and he studies an industry closely before putting money into it.
That presence shows up in his habits. He surrounds himself with talented people and pairs an optimistic outlook with close attention to operational detail, the unglamorous follow-through that turns a plan into a result.
Passion as the edge
The deciding factor, he argues, isn’t raw intelligence. “The edge you have is because you have that passion,” Betancourt López said. “That’s the advantage. It’s not how smarter you are than most people, it’s about how much dedicated you are and how sure you are you’re going to achieve that.”
The logic ties back to time. People who can’t stop thinking about a goal pour more hours into it, often without noticing, which puts them ahead of everyone treating it as just another task.
