When Podcaster Greg Soros walked away from a senior producer job in 2020, he had a choice to make. He could have chased the industry trend toward churning out endless content. Instead, the Portland native placed a narrower bet: quality over quantity. That bet became Podcraft Media Lab, his Austin-based production company, and it has paid off in ways few in the industry predicted for a podcaster starting from scratch.
A Deliberate Narrowing
Greg Soros built his business around a simple premise: treat every episode like a piece of crafted audio art rather than a commodity to be pushed out on a schedule. “In the podcasting world, there’s enormous pressure to pump out content at scale,” he says. “But we discovered that by focusing on premium production quality and treating each project like a crafted piece of audio art, we actually expanded our market reach.” That philosophy now serves Fortune 500 clients alongside independent creators building their first shows.
The results show up in the referral numbers. Close to 40 percent of Podcraft’s business arrives through connections inside the audio content world, including major networks that hand their most valuable projects to his team when the stakes are highest.
Training at Berklee, a Signature Sound
Soros traces his technical foundation to Berklee College of Music, paired with years at leading media companies before he struck out on his own as an independent podcaster. That combination produced what colleagues call his signature sound, a blend of digital precision and organic texture recorded from his converted garage studio in Austin’s East Side.
“We’ve positioned ourselves as the audio specialists, like the master craftsmen of the podcasting world,” he explains. “When professionals need something done exceptionally well, they come to us.”
Podcraft has kept client satisfaction above 95 percent, and Greg Soros has mentored creators through a program that has helped launch more than 20 independent podcasts for underrepresented voices, proof that narrow focus and generosity can grow together. Read this article for more information.
